All-West Audition Preparation
at Rhythm & Grooves

Be audition-ready when you take lessons with our educated and experienced music instructors.

Get Ready For All-West Auditions

Be as prepared as you can be for your All-West audition by taking lessons at Rhythm & Grooves. Our team of expert instructors have various degrees in music, and are ready to provide you with top tier instruction.

All-West is one of the biggest achievements for a young musician in West Tennessee. It takes more than just showing up. You have to give it your all with focused practice, the right technique, and an instructor who knows exactly what the judges are listening for.

Rhythm & Grooves is proud to say that we’ve helped [X} students prepare and make the All-West Band, Orchestra, and Choir. We’ve seen percussion, (X) and (X) students make it into the All-West after working with our teachers and team. Whether you or your child is auditioning for the first time, or you need to climb the chairs after a previous audition, our instructors know the material, the process, and what it takes to stand out in the blind audition room.

We offer individual and group classes to prepare for your audition.

All-West Preparation and Guidance

Because a great audition takes musical skill and precisionAll-West auditions are blind and extremely competitive. Over a thousand hopefuls from all over West-Tennessee come to audition every year. Our music instructors build a plan around exactly what that audition requires.

You’ll learn:

  • Mastery of the required prepared audition music, adjusted for your specific instrument and grade level
  • All required major scales and the chromatic scale, drilled until they are audition ready
  • Sight-reading practice so students walk in prepared for the unexpected
  • Mock audition run throughs so students know what the real room will feel like
  • Tone, technique and performance coaching from instructors who understand what judges are listening for
  • Flexible lesson scheduling in the months leading up to auditions
Don’t leave your audition to chance. Rhythm & Grooves is here to provide you with every chance of success for the All-West auditions.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about our music lessons
What is All-West?
We welcome students as young as five. If your child can sit, focus, and is excited about music, they are ready to start.
When are All-West auditions held?
Auditions are typically held in the fall, with results released the following week. The honor clinic and concert take place in February at the Cannon Center for the Performing Arts in Memphis.
What does the audition include?
The audition has three parts: prepared music, scales chosen at random from a required list, and sight-reading. Auditions are blind, meaning judges cannot see who is performing.
How far in advance should we start preparing?
The earlier the better. Most students benefit from starting several months before auditions to build the necessary technique and feel confident with the required material. Contact us as soon as your director shares audition requirements.
Do you work with all instruments and voice parts?
Yes. We work with students across band instruments, orchestral strings and voice, tailoring preparation to whatever your school's program requires.
What if my child has never taken lessons before?
That is okay. While earlier preparation is always better, our instructors can help students build the skills needed as efficiently as possible given the time available.
