Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about our music lessons
Do I need to own a violin or cello before starting lessons?
Yes. Students need to bring their own instrument to lessons. If you are just getting started and are not sure which instrument or size to buy or rent, our instructors can point you in the right direction before your first lesson.
What size instrument does my child need?
Violin and cello sizing is based on age and height, not skill level. Younger students typically start on a smaller size and size up as they grow. Not sure what your child needs? Our instructors can guide you before your first lesson so you are not guessing at the music store.
Should my child start on violin or cello?
It depends on what excites them. Violin is smaller, more portable and a common starting point for younger children. Cello has a deeper, richer tone and tends to suit students who are drawn to that sound. Our instructors can help you figure out the right fit at registration.
Can violin and cello lessons help my child prepare for school orchestra auditions?
Absolutely. Our instructors are experienced at preparing students for school orchestra auditions and performance opportunities. Let us know your child has an upcoming audition and we will build their lessons around that goal.
Is violin or cello harder to learn?
Both instruments have their own learning curve. Violin requires precise finger placement in a smaller space, while cello demands more physical technique due to its size. Neither is inherently harder, it comes down to what feels right for the student.
How long does it take to sound good on violin or cello?
Most beginners can produce a clean tone and play simple pieces within their first few months of consistent practice. String instruments take patience early on, but students who stick with it are always glad they did.
What if we need to miss a lesson?
Cancel at least six hours before your scheduled lesson and you will receive a makeup credit. Makeup credits expire after 60 days so be sure to schedule your makeup before then.
Is there a long term contract or semester minimum?
None. Every student is month to month. If you need to stop lessons just let us know by the 15th of your last month and that is it.
