Lesson Scheduling
Lessons are 30, 45 or 60 minutes each and booked in monthly blocks.

Richard Henson, owner of Rhythm & Grooves and percussion coordinator for Munford Middle and High School, is a performing artist for Innovative Percussion, Remo and Sabian with appearances alongside the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, Blood Sweat and Tears and many others.
Paul Hayes holds both a Masters and Bachelors in Percussion Performance, serves on the World Percussion Committee for the Percussive Arts Society, and is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Memphis.

What is the difference between concert and world percussion?
Concert percussion covers instruments found in school bands and orchestras — snare drum, bass drum, mallet instruments and timpani. World percussion explores rhythm traditions from cultures around the globe using hand percussion and traditional instruments. Rhythm & Grooves is the only school in Memphis offering both.
How is percussion different from drum set?
Drum set lessons focus on the full kit and playing grooves, beats and songs. Percussion is a much broader instrument family covering concert instruments, mallet instruments and world percussion traditions. Many students take both because they complement each other well.
Does my child need to be in school band to take percussion lessons?
Not at all. Percussion lessons are open to any student with an interest in rhythm regardless of whether they are in a school music program. That said, our concert percussion lessons are a great fit for school band students looking for extra support.
Can percussion lessons help my child prepare for school band auditions?
Absolutely. Our concert percussion instructors are experienced at preparing students for school band auditions, marching band and drumline. If your child has an audition coming up let us know and we will build their lessons around that goal.
What instruments will my child learn?
That depends on which program your child pursues. Concert percussion students work on snare drum, bass drum, mallet instruments and more. World percussion students explore hand percussion and rhythm traditions from around the globe. Our instructors will help you figure out the right starting point at registration.
What if we need to miss a lesson?
Cancel at least six hours before your scheduled lesson and you will receive a makeup credit. Makeup credits expire after 60 days so be sure to use them.
Is there a long term contract or semester minimum?
None. Every student is month to month. If you need to stop lessons just let us know by the 15th of your last month and that is it.
