Sam Salsbury

Samara Salsbury is currently a student at the University of Memphis and is completing her Bachelor of Arts in Music, with an expected graduation date of Spring 2027. She has 14 years of experience playing the French horn and has explored a variety of other instruments, including trumpet, piano, percussion, bassoon, clarinet, and flute. She plans to pursue a career in teaching and hopes to continue her education through graduate programs in composition and songwriting.

Samara is also a composer and will begin concentrated composition studies in Fall 2026 with Sam Shoup and Dr. Mahir Cetiz at the University of Memphis. She began composing in elementary school and wrote her first piece for band while in middle school. She has since performed an original composition in competition at the Southeast Horn Conference in Knoxville and has released two albums, with a third currently on the way.

Samara’s passion is helping students flourish in their love of music. She believes that developing musicianship not only helps students grow as musicians, but also teaches skills that can positively influence how they approach challenges, goals, and life beyond music.
